You've found Canela Flames, my personal corner on the web. My life began with a complex tapestry of experiences: born with fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), enduring Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), growing up amidst extensive abuse and pregnancy. While these profound moments are part of my history, they are not my complete story. Today, as a Black bilingual, I'm actively authoring my next chapter by pursuing a PhD in Spanish Linguistics.
 

This blog is where I'm finally ready to lay bare my experiences, explore the fascinating nuances of navigating both AAVE and Standard English, and articulate how these perspectives shape my insights into the diverse Spanish-speaking world. Has encontrado Canela Flames, mi rincón personal en la web. Mi vida comenzó con un complejo tapiz de experiencias: nací con síndrome de alcoholismo fetal (SAF), soporté el síndrome de abstinencia neonatal (SAN), crecí en medio de abuso extenso y un embarazo. Si bien estos momentos profundos son parte de mi historia, no son mi historia completa. Hoy, como mujer afrodescendiente bilingüe, estoy escribiendo activamente mi próximo capítulo al cursar un doctorado en Lingüística Española.
